Cell membrane
Also known as a cell wall or plasma membrane, it is a structure that holds the cell together, being half lipid and half protein, and is semipermeable, allowing some substances to pass through.
Cytoplasm
The fluid part of the cell that enables the cell's internal structure to move.
Nucleus
The brain of the cell, located in the center, containing DNA, chromosomes, and the nucleolus where RNA is produced to form ribosomes.
Ribosomes
Structures within the cell responsible for making proteins by linking amino acids together in the order specified by messenger RNA molecules.
Endoplasmic reticulum
A collection of folded membranes attached to the nucleus, with rough endoplasmic reticulum lined with ribosomes and smooth endoplasmic reticulum lacking ribosomes.
Golgi apparatus
A structure formed with folded membranes similar to smooth endoplasmic reticulum, where lysosomes are produced.
Lysosomes
Enzymes within cells that digest food and proteins, aiding in breaking down molecules and cell removal through autolysis.
Mitochondria
Known as the "powerhouse of the cell," these structures make energy by converting food particles into energy, having a double membrane with folded inner ridges and a smooth outer membrane.
