ability to make your own choices and decisions.
Bill of Rights
first 10 amendments to the Constitution. Protect rights of citizens.
Checks and Balances
each branch has powers over the other branches to avoid a power grab.
Democracy
form of government where the people rule.
Due Process
government must treat people fairly and follow the same rules for everyone
Limited Government
government that is not all powerful. Government does not control everything.
Popular Sovereignty
people are the rulers of the country and make the decisions.
Representative Government
the people choose representatives to make laws for us.
Republicanism
system where the people hold the power and not a king.
Separation of Powers
three branches of government that have different powers.
