SchOG (Schulorganisationsgesetz)
The law regulating the organizational structure of the entire Austrian school system, with exceptions such as universities and nursing schools.
SchUG (Schulunterrichtsgesetz)
The School Instruction Act, which serves as a legal foundation for classroom instruction and school operations.
LBVO (Leistungsbeurteilungsverordnung)
The Performance Assessment Ordinance, which provides the legal framework for grading and evaluating student performance.
B-VG (Bundes-Verfassungsgesetz)
The Federal Constitutional Law, which establishes the constitutional basis for the distribution of competencies between the Federation (Bund) and the States (Ländern).

Häuslicher Unterricht (Home Schooling)
Instruction provided at home, requiring an annual proof of success via an Externistenprüfung (external exam).
Schulreife (School Readiness)
A condition reached when a child has completed their 6th year of life and can follow instruction without being physically or mentally overstrained.
Ungerechtfertigtes Fernbleiben (Unjustified Absence)
An absence of more than 3 school days without a valid reason, which must be reported to the district administrative authority.
Schulveranstaltungen
School activities designed to supplement the curriculum-based instruction, which students are generally required to attend.
Schulbezogene Veranstaltungen
School-related activities that do not directly supplement the curriculum.
Individuelle Berufsorientierung
Program starting at the 8th grade providing life-oriented and professional information about the world of work and vocational training.
§ 17 Abs 2 SchUG (Hausübungen)
The legal paragraph stating homework must complement Unterrichtsarbeit and cannot be required to be completed on weekends or holidays.
Schulnachricht
The school report issued at the end of the first semester of each school year.
Frühwarnsystem (Early Warning System)
A duty to inform parents/students starting in November or April if performance drops or a 'Nicht genügend' is imminent, including a meeting for tailor-made support.
NOST (Neue Oberstufe)
A system starting at the 10th grade involving the semester-based division of curriculum into competence modules to prepare for university.
SOST (Semestrierte Oberstufe)
The 2022 revised, voluntary version of the semestrated upper level that divides the school year into a winter and summer semester.
ILB (Individuelle Lernbegleitung)
Individual Learning Support provided by a specially trained teacher to guide students in their learning process and self-organization starting from the 10th grade.
Semesterprüfung
In the SOST system, an exam based on the specific deficiencies listed in a report supplement to compensate for a 'Nicht genügend' or 'Nicht beurteilt'.
Klausur Positive Threshold
To receive a passing grade on the exam, a student must achieve at least 36 points out of a possible 70.
