dense/compact bone (bone-dry ground slide, the green one)

dense/compact bone (bone-dry ground slide, the green one)

 • osteon (haversian system) - main building block of bone

 • central (haversian) canal - goes through core of each osteon, creating a passageway for blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves

 • concentric lamellae - the ring on an osteon, between the lacunae

 • canaliculi - extend off the lacunae

 • lacunae - darker spots on the bone tissue

 • perforating (Volkmann’s) canal - connection between 2 central canals

 • interstitial lamellae - space between osteons

New cards

dense/compact bone (decalcified)

dense/compact bone (decalcified)

lacunae - empty spaces

osteocytes - cells in the lacunae

periosteum - two layers, fibrous layer and osteogenic layer

fibrous layer - superficial, dyed pink

osteogenic layer - deep, purple dots

osteoblasts

3
New cards

spongy/cancellous bone (deep bone surrounded by bone marrow)

spongy/cancellous bone (deep bone surrounded by bone marrow)

 • trabeculae - fragments of bone tissue that have lacunae and osteocytes

 • endosteum - osteoblasts come off the sides of this layer

 • bone marrow - areas to the sides of the trabeculae
