Ionic bonds
Bonds formed when valence electrons are completely transferred from one atom to another, creating oppositely charged ions.
Covalent bonds
Bonds formed when two atoms share one or more pairs of valence electrons to become stable.
Metallic bonds
Bonds found in pure metals where valence electrons detach from individual atoms.
Carbon polymer bonding
Strong covalent bonds formed by carbon to build long chains and rings of polymers.

Dehydration synthesis
The process of joining monomers into large chains called polymers with the removal of a water molecule, such as combining glucose and fructose to form sucrose.
Hydrolysis
The process by which macromolecules and polymers are broken apart into individual monomers.
Polymers
Large molecular chains formed by joining smaller units called monomers together.
Monomers
Individual building block units that are joined together to form large chains called polymers.
