Monosomy
A condition in which an individual has only one copy of a particular chromosome instead of the normal two.
Polar Body
A small cell that is a by-product of oogenesis that typically does not develop into an ovum.
Euploid
Having the normal number of chromosomes for a species.
Polyploidy
A condition in which an organism has more than two complete sets of chromosomes.
Somatic vs. Germ Line Lifecycle
The differentiation between the majority of body cells (somatic) and the cells dedicated to reproduction (germ line).
Zygote
A fertilized egg cell formed from the union of a sperm cell and an ovum.
