What are Wetlands.
The areas where water covers the soil, either part or all of the time.
What are some threats to wetlands?
Threats include commercial development, dam constructions, overfishing , and pollutants from agriculture and industrial waste.
What do wetlands provide?
Wetlands provide a variety of ecological services, including water purification, flood protection, water filtration, and habitat.
What are the three types of wetlands.
Swamps, marshes, bogs.
Characteristics of Bogs
low oxygen in water, ombrotrophic, open sunlight.
Characteristics of swamps
Saturated sunlight, poor drainage, plant life dominated by trees.
What can cause pollution in the swamps
Pesticides, fertilizer, Sewage and contaminated water supply
What can cause pollution in Mangroves
Fertilizer, pesticides and toxic chemical caused by river supply can smother mangrove roots
