Allows substances to move across the apical surface

Increases membrane surface area for transport

Goblet cell

Produces muscus

Cardiac muscle

Involuntary controlled and comprises most of the wall of the heart. striated, short and branched

Smooth muscle

Involuntary controlled and found in the wall of blood vessels and hollow organs

Skeletal muscle

voluntary controlled and striated, it is found in skeletal muscles that provide body movement

Intercalated discs

specialized cell connections that prevent the cells from seperating

Epithelial Tissues

Covers body surfaces that are expose to the environment and line hollow organs and body cavities

Basement membrane

A thin extracellular structure that consists of two layers, the basal lamina and reticular lamina

Apical Surface

The epithelial tissue facing the environment, lumen or body cavity

Basal surface

Side of the epithelial tissue facing the basement membrane
