Appeal to tradition, and want to return to the basics for their faith. Arises when traditional beliefs/values challenged by modern society and globalised economy. e.g from capitalist globalisation. e.g for christian fundamentalists every word of the bible is literally true, containing truth about big questions an dpolitics. Also have an aggressive reaction to a threats of their beliefs. Patriarchal and use modern tech.
The ‘clash of civilisations’ - Huntington
Religious differences causes global conflicts, such as the fundamentalist islamists who caused 911, this is due to globalisation as it allowed for civilisations to contact eachother, and as more people want to have economic and military power. West is udner threat from islam.

Globalisation created prosperous scientifically educated middle class India, with people working in IT, pharmaceuticals etc predicted to abandon religion actually continued to believe in supernatural. This is due to religious tourism, such as visits to shrines, and it becoming fashionable to be religious. Increasing religiousity due to ‘telegurus’ that preach that m/c consumerism can be spiritual balanced by paying for rituals.
H:could be getting more religious due to defense to modernisation, or bc there are parts in poverty in india.
