Density
An intensive physical property of pure substances with units of g/mL or g/cm3, defined as mass divided by volume.
Density Equation
The formula used to calculate density: Density=volumemass.
SI Base Units Table
The International System of Units (Système International) base measurements for mass (kg), length (m), time (s), temperature (K), amount of substance (mol), electric current (A), and luminous intensity (cd).
Prefix Multipliers Table
A summary table of common SI and metric prefixes, their symbols, decimal equivalents, and power of 10 multipliers ranging from mega- to pico-.
Greek Prefixes Table
A table of numerical prefixes from mono- (1) through deca- (10) used for naming binary molecular compounds.
Periodic Table Ion Charge Map
A periodic table diagram displaying typical monatomic ion charges based on group location, such as 1+ for group 1A, 2+ for group 2A, 3+ for Al, 3− for N, 2− for group 6A, and 1− for group 7A.
Binary Molecular Compounds
Covalent compounds named by using Greek prefixes to specify the number of atoms of each element.
Binary Ionic Compounds Nomenclature
A system for naming binary ionic compounds where the metal cation is stated first, followed by the root of the nonmetal anion with an -ide ending, omitting numerical prefixes.
Main Group Metal Ion Charge Rule
A rule where the ion charge for many main group metals is equal to the element's group number.
Nonmetal Ion Charge Rule
A rule where the negative ion charge for nonmetals is equal to the element's group number minus 8.
Mega-
An SI prefix represented by symbol M, equal to a decimal value of 1,000,000 or a multiplier of Base×106.
Kilo-
An SI prefix represented by symbol k, equal to a decimal value of 1,000 or a multiplier of Base×103.
Deci-
An SI prefix represented by symbol d, equal to a decimal value of 0.1 or a multiplier of Base×10−1.
Centi-
An SI prefix represented by symbol c, equal to a decimal value of 0.01 or a multiplier of Base×10−2.
Milli-
An SI prefix represented by symbol m, equal to a decimal value of 0.001 or a multiplier of Base×10−3.
Micro-
An SI prefix represented by symbol μ or mc, equal to a decimal value of 0.000001 or a multiplier of Base×10−6.
Nano-
An SI prefix represented by symbol n, equal to a decimal value of 0.000000001 or a multiplier of Base×10−9.
Pico-
An SI prefix represented by symbol p, equal to a decimal value of 0.000000000001 or a multiplier of Base×10−12.
