How many parts does the omental bursa have?
A main part and three recesses (right, left, superior).
What are the limits of the main part of the omental bursa?
Anterior = stomach and gastrocolic ligament
Posterior = pancreas and diaphragm
Superior = diaphragm
Inferior = transverse colon and mesocolon.
What is the right pouch of the omental bursa called?
The vestibule of the omental bursa.
What are the limits of the vestibule of the omental bursa?
Anterior = lesser omentum
Posterior = IVC, right diaphragmatic pillar, aorta
Superior = visceral surface of the liver (caudate lobe)
Inferior = lesser curvature of the stomach.
How many orifices does the vestibule of the omental bursa have?
Two.
What are the communications of the vestibule of the omental bursa?
To the left: with the omental bursa main part (through the omental bursa foramen)
To the right: with the greater peritoneal cavity (through the epiploic Winslow foramen).
What are the limits of the omental bursa foramen?
Anterior = lesser curvature of the stomach
Posterior = two folds of peritoneum: gastropancreatic (left gastric artery) and hepatopancreatic (common hepatic artery).
What are the limits of the foramen of Winslow?
Anterior = hepatoduodenal ligament
Posterior = IVC
Superior = visceral surface of the liver (caudate lobe)
Inferior = first part of the duodenum.
Where is the splenic or left recess located?
Between the gastrolienal and renolienal ligaments.
Where is the superior recess located?
Between the esophagus and the IVC.
