To determine the limits of microbial contaminants the following should be taken into consideration (2)
Heavy metals
are found naturally in the environment and in rocks, soil and water, and may therefore be found in pigments and other raw materials
quality & purity of raw materials
manufacturing processes
quantity of raw material used
heavy metals contaminants could be derived from (3)
=<500 cfu/g or cfu/ml
limit of total aerobic mesophilic microorganisms for children under 3 yrs (eye area and mucous membranes)
=<1000 cfu/g or cfu/ml
limit of total aerobic mesophilic microorganisms for other products
absent in 0.1g or 0.1 ml test sample
limit of P.aeruginosa, S. aereus, and C.albicans
