Imagery
Vivid, descriptive language that appeals to the five senses to create mental pictures for readers.
Sensory Language
Words or phrases that engage sight, sound, taste, smell, or touch to enhance imagery.
Visual Imagery
Descriptions that appeal primarily to the sense of sight, such as "sway" and "grace."
Auditory Imagery
Descriptions that appeal to the sense of hearing, such as "lulls" and "swishing."
Symbolism
The use of words, objects, or actions to represent abstract ideas or deeper meanings in a text.
Bamboo (as a Symbol)
Represents human courage and resiliency in the poem "The Bamboo."
Courage
Mental or moral strength to confront danger, fear, or difficulty—symbolized by the bamboo.
Resilience
The ability to withstand and recover from challenges—another trait conveyed by the bamboo symbol.
