Epicardium
The outer layer of the heart.
Myocardium
The muscular middle layer of the heart responsible for contraction.
Endocardium
The inner lining of the heart chambers.
Tricuspid valve (TV)
The valve between the right atrium and right ventricle.
Pulmonary valve (PV)
The valve that directs blood from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.
Mitral valve (MV)
The valve between the left atrium and left ventricle.
Aortic valve (AV)
The valve that directs blood from the left ventricle into the aorta.
Sinoatrial node (SA node)
The heart's natural pacemaker that initiates electrical impulses.
Systole
The phase of the heartbeat where the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood.
Diastole
The phase of the heartbeat where the heart muscles relax and allow the chambers to fill with blood.
Action Potential
The change in electrical potential across a cell membrane during a heartbeat.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
A graphical representation of the electrical activity of the heart.
P wave
The wave representing atrial depolarization in an ECG.
QRS complex
The wave representing ventricular depolarization in an ECG.
T wave
The wave representing ventricular repolarization in an ECG.
Cardiac Rhythm Analysis
The process used to measure and interpret the rhythm of the heart as shown in an ECG.
Sinus Bradycardia
A slower than normal heart rate originating from the sinus node.
Sinus Tachycardia
A faster than normal heart rate originating from the sinus node.
