obtain consent from persons they serve about nature and possible risks and effects of services provided, technology employed, and products dispensed

discrimination

shall not discriminate in the delivery of services or in conduct of research and scholarly activities on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identify/expression, sexual orientation, age, religion, national original, disability, culture, language, or dialect

confidentiality

individuals shall protect the confidentiality and security of records or professional services provided, research and scholarly activities conducted, and products dispensed

fabrication

making up data or results and recording or reporting them

falsification

manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record

plagiarism

the appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit

informed consent

shall enroll and include persons as participants in research or teaching demonstrations only if participant is voluntary, without coercion, and with consent

informed consent

shall accurately represent the intended purpose of service, product, or research endeavor

disclosure

a self initiated action, with the intent to be honest and complete, to provide personal and professional information in order to remain ethically compliant with the code

recusal

shall avoid engaging in conflicts of interest whereby personal, financial, or other considerations have the potential to influence or compromise professional judgment and objectivity

recusal

action of withdrawing from situations when one’s participation creates a bias that could adversely influence the decision

research misconduct

the fabrication, falsification or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results (does not include honest error)
