Gender
An internally felt sense of self, along with social meanings, roles, and expectations associated with a certain sex.
Ascribed Status
A social status assigned at birth, such as sex at birth.
Achieved Status
A social status that is acquired based on individual actions, such as gender.
Studying Gender
The examination of how gender is learned, expressed, enacted, and experienced, as well as how it is institutionalized.
Gender Discourse
The ways in which people talk about gender and how ideas about gender change over time.
Social Identity Interaction
The interaction of gender with other social identities and how they impact individual experiences.
Judith Lorber
A feminist sociologist whose work is significant in the study of gender roles and identities.
