Hardy Weinberg principle
frequency of alleles in a population remains constant over time, as long as five conditions are met
Five conditions of the principle
-no mutations
-no immigration/emigration no new alleles introduced
-no selection, no alleles favoured or eliminated
-mating is random, so alleles mixed randomly
-population is large, so there are no genetic bottle
Hardy Weinberg Equation (allele)
p+q=1
Hardy Weinberg Equation (individual)
p²+2pq+q²=1
Most useful part of equation to use
homozygous recessive (only affects one data set)
