What is the Law of Conservation of Mass?
Mass cannot be created or destroyed during a chemical reaction.
In a closed system, how does the mass of reactants compare with the mass of products?
The total mass of the reactants equals the total mass of the products.
Why is mass conserved during a chemical reaction?
Because the atoms are only rearranged. No atoms are created and no atoms disappear.
What does a balanced chemical equation demonstrate?
It demonstrates that the same number of atoms of each element is present before and after the reaction.
What is a closed system?
A system where substances, particularly matter, cannot escape from or enter the system.
Why is the total mass of reactants equal to the total mass of products in a closed system?
Because no matter can enter or leave, and the atoms are simply rearranged.
