Creation, the Garden of Eden, and the Fall of Man

This set explores the theological concepts related to the biblical account of Creation, the description of the Garden of Eden, the creation of Adam and Eve, and the events and consequences of the Fall of Man.

Creation

The belief that God brought the universe and all living things into existence out of nothing.

Ex Nihilo

A term describing that God created everything "out of nothing" during the six days of creation.

Genesis 1:2

The verse describing the presence of the Holy Trinity where "the Spirit of God hovered over the waters" while the earth was formless and empty.

Day 1 of Creation

The day God said, "Let there be…" and created Light.

Day 2 of Creation

The day God created the Sky.

Day 3 of Creation

The day God created Land and Sea.

Day 4 of Creation

The day God created the Sun, Moon, and Stars.

Day 5 of Creation

The day God created Birds of the air and Fish of the waters.

Day 6 of Creation

The day God created Land animals and Man in His own image and likeness.

Sabbath

The seventh day, a day of rest which God commands us to honor and keep holy.

Stewards

The role of human beings to have dominion and care for God's creation.

Garden of Eden

A paradise of peace, harmony, and innocence where the first humans lived in fellowship with God.

Adam

The first man, created by God from the dust of the ground.

Eve

The first woman, created from Adam's rib to be his companion and partner.

Monogamy

The union of one man and one woman, described in the context of the Sacrament of Marriage.

Temptation

The act of making "bad things" appear "seemingly good," performed by the devil/serpent from the beginning.

Pride

The cause of the downfall of humanity during the Fall of Man.

Sin of Commission

A type of sin that is forbidden by God but committed by the person.

Sin of Omission

A type of sin occurring when a person does not act on what should be done.

The Fall of Man

The event where Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, bringing sin, suffering, and death into the world.

Proto-Evangelium

Meaning "first gospel," it refers to Genesis 3:15, which is God's first promise of redemption after the Fall.

Genesis 3:15

The verse stating "he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel," signifying the ultimate defeat of evil by the woman's offspring.
