What is the definition of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB)?
A change in the pattern or volume of menstrual bleeding that may be infrequent, prolonged, or excessive.
What percentage of females experience abnormal uterine bleeding during their reproductive years?
10% to 20% of females.
What is the difference between acute AUB and chronic AUB?
Acute AUB requires immediate intervention and occurs suddenly, while chronic AUB has abnormal bleeding present for the majority of the past 6 months.

What is the role of endometrial biopsy in AUB evaluation?
To rule out unchecked proliferation of the endometrium that can lead to hyperplasia and possibly endometrial adenocarcinoma.
What lab tests are commonly conducted for AUB evaluation?
Hematocrit, hemoglobin, platelet count, peripheral smear with differential, pregnancy evaluation, and Pap test.
What is the initial management approach for teenagers with mild AUB?
Observation in mild cases and prescribing medroxyprogesterone or oral contraceptive pills (OCP).
