Par
The expected number of strokes to complete a hole.
Birdie
The term for a score of one under par on a single hole.
Fore
The word shouted to warn other players of a wayward ball.
Hazards
Course features such as sandtraps, ponds, and creeks; note that cart paths are NOT considered hazards.
Putter
The most appropriate golf club to use when the ball is on the "green."
Driver
The most appropriate club for teeing off on a long hole.
Round of golf length
A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes.
Tee off order
Following the first hole, the player who won the last hole should tee off first.
Second shot order
After teeing off, the player who is furthest from the hole generally takes their second shot first.
Out of Bounds (OB) penalty
The penalty for hitting the ball out of bounds is one stroke.
Swing and miss
An action that counts as a stroke even if it is accidental; the statement that they do not count is False.
Bunker etiquette
The requirement that players should rake the sand following a shot out of the bunker.
Proper striking technique
When striking the golf ball, eyes should stay down on the ball and the lead elbow should remain straight.
Divots
Pieces of turf displaced by a club that players are expected to replace or fill themselves.
Improving a Lie
An illegal action; players may not move a ball to improve its position even if it lies in long grass.

The final score for the round, excluding handicap, was 74.
Par on hole 8
The designated par for the eighth hole is 4.
John's score on hole 16
The score achieved by John on the 16th hole was a Bogey.
John's front 9 score
John's total score for the first nine holes was 38.
John's total birdies
The number of holes John scored one under par during his round was 4.
