MEL

Quick Reference Handbook, a manual used in aviation for troubleshooting procedures.
Fire Loop
A system component that detects fire in an engine by monitoring temperature changes.
Faulted Side
The part of the system that is malfunctioning or has failed.
Emergency Bus
A power distribution system designed to provide electrical power in an emergency situation.
CCAS
Centralized Crew Alerting System, a system that alerts pilots to critical flight information.
Agent One and Agent Two
Fire extinguishing agents located on either side of the aircraft, used to suppress engine fires.
Fire Detection Systems
Systems in an aircraft designed to detect the presence of fire and activate alarms.
Squibs
Small explosive devices that release fire suppression agents when activated.
Temperature Drop
The decrease in temperature that indicates the extinguishing of a fire after suppression agents have been deployed.
Pulling the Fire Handle
The action taken to activate the fire suppression system in an aircraft engine.
Halon
A type of fire suppressant used in aircraft fire bottles.
Continuous Chimes
Audible warnings that sound in the cockpit to alert pilots of an engine fire.
Engine Fire Extinguishing System
A system designed to extinguish fires in aircraft engines using fire bottles.
High Pressure Fuel Pump
A pump that maintains the pressure of fuel delivered to the engine.
