Compliance (C)
How readily the elastic force of the lungs accepts a volume of inspired air; the change in lung volume per unit pressure change. C = "Delta"V /
"Delta"P.
Average Compliance at Rest
0.1 L/cmH20, meaning 100mL of air is delivered into the lungs per 1cmH20.
Static Compliance (Cstat)
Measured when the volume has been moved into the lungs and held, with no airflow.
Raw (Airway Resistance)
The amount of pressure it takes to move the air divided by the amount of flow generated. Formula: Pressure (cmH20) / Flow (L/sec) = cmH20/L/sec.
Normal Airway Resistance (Raw)
0.6-2.4 cmH20/L/sec.
Driving Pressure
The pressure difference between two points in a tube or vessel. Calculated as Plateau pressure
