Newton’s first law of inertia
body will remain in state of rest or constant velocity unless acted on by external force
Newton’s second law of acceleration
body rate of change in momentum is proportional to size of force applied and acts in same direction of force
Newton’s third law of reaction
every action force applied to body there is equal and opposite reaction force
What is inertia?
resistance of body to change its state of motion
What is momentum?
quantity of motion possessed by moving body
Equation for momentum
momentum = mass X velocity
What is acceleration?
rate of change in velocity
What happens with momentum in 2nd law?
greater force, greater momentum and therefore greater acceleration
