Direction

The manner in which our body points, faces, and/or leads in space

Forward

Movement leading with the front surface of the body

Backward

Movement leading with the back surface of the body

Upward

Movement leading with the top surface of the body

Downward

Movement leading with the lower surface of the body, usually by bending the knees

Sideways - Right/Left

Movement leading with the right or left surface/side of the body

Pathway

The specific pattern we make as we travel through space, and/or the patterns we make with our body parts in space

Linear

Movement that travels in straight patterns in space

Curved

Movement that travels in round patterns in space

Angular

Movement that travels in angled patterns in space

Focus

How the dance is moving and directing their body in space

Direct

The attention of your body us only on one specific thing/area

Indirect

It is opening the attention of the body to include multiple stimuli

Speed

The tempo of a phrase of movement

Slow

Extending or lengthening the time it takes to perform movements

Medium

Natural pace, in between slow and fast

Fast

Moves quickly with a sense of urgency

Rhythm

The pattern, pulse, grouping & breath of movement

Pulse

An even rhythm that keeps a steady beat

Breath

An uneven rhythm

Grouping

A meter that provides the pulse or the beat of the music, example 4/4, 3/4, 6/8
