What does PAR stand for?
Parabolic Aluminized Reflector
What type of lenses do ERS use?
Plano-convex lenses. These lenses & their configuration control the angle of the beam of light emitted by the instrument.
How did the ERS get its name?
It got its name from the ellipsoidal reflector inside the fixture
How did the Fresnel get its name?
It got its name from its inventor, the French physicist and engineer Augustin-Jean-Fresnel.
How did the PAR get its name?
It got its name from an acronym that describes its internal optical design
What does the black knob of death on a lighting fixture do?
It securely locks the orientation of the lighting fixture to prevent it from slipping, dropping, or swinging out of focus.
What does AC stand for?
Alternating Current. It alternates the direction of the current by approx 60 cycles per second.
What are some things that use AC power?
Refrigerators, toasters, and air conditioners.
What does DC stand for?
Direct Current. Electrical current flows in one direction; hot flows to hot and neutral flows to neutral.
What’s an example of something that uses DC power?
Batteries and LED lights.
Hard Patch
Physically plugging cables (connecting the circuit to the dimmer) like in a Spaghetti board

Going from light bulb to light bulb to make a circuit. If 1 bulb burns out the circuit gets cut off

It’s a Narrow Spot lens. The glass is stippled. This creates a narrow, round beam of light with slightly softened edges.

Which Source 4 PAR lens is this and what does it cause the beam of light to do?
This is a Medium Flood Lens. It has fewer facets and creates a medium-wide, oval light beam rather than a round one. The beam of light is also less bright than the NSP or VNSP lenses due to the facets.
