Allegory
A work that conveys a hidden meaning, usually moral, spiritual, or political, through symbolic characters and events.
Arbitrate
To judge a dispute between two opposing parties and reach an agreement.
Crucible
A container in which metals or other substances may be melted, or a situation of severe trial leading to the creation of something new.
Defamation
An abusive attack on a person's character or reputation, also known as calumny.
Deference
A courteous expression of esteem or regard; humble respect.
Inert
Lacking the ability or strength to move.
Pretense
A way of behaving intended to deceive people; making something appear to be true.
Prodigious
So great in size, force, or extent as to elicit awe; unnatural or abnormal.
Reckoning
The act of being held accountable for one's actions, or a moment of judgment for past deeds.
Trepidation
A feeling of alarm or dread; fear.
