Industrialization

Developing Countries
Countries with less productive economies and low standards of living, represented as a triangle on a population pyramid.
GDP
Gross Domestic Product; the total value of goods and services created within a country, indicating its level of development.
Literacy Rate
The percentage of people who can read and write; a high literacy rate is often associated with developed countries.
Population Density
The average number of people living in a specific area, indicating how close people are to one another.
Infrastructure
Systems of roads, ports, and other facilities needed by a modern economy.
Demography
The statistical study of human populations, important for understanding market conditions.
Westernization
The influence of Western ideas, cultures, and practices on other societies.
Arable
Soil that is fit for growing crops.
Subsistence Farming
Farming in which food is produced by a family for its own needs, common in areas of low development.

Urbanization
The growth of the number of people living in cities.

Districts lying immediately outside a city or town, often smaller residential communities.
