What is the main reason to change lane position?
Your Line of Sight (LOS) or Path of Travel (POT) is blocked.
LP 1
Position in the center of your lane; used most of the time when driving.
LP 2
Position to the left in your lane but still inside your lane; used for preparing for a left turn, lane change, or avoiding obstacles.
When do you use LP 2?
When preparing for a left turn, lane change or to avoid vehicles, debris, or to see around a big vehicle.
LP 3
Position to the right in your lane but still inside your lane; used before a right turn or lane change.
What is a situation you would use LP 3?
Before a right turn or lane change and to stay away from a big vehicle on your left.
LP 4
Going into the oncoming lane; used to avoid large obstructions on the right.
What should you do before using LP 4?
Clear your Path of Travel first.
LP 5
Pulling off the road on your right to avoid large obstructions or in emergencies.
What does SMOG stand for?
Signal, Mirror, Over the shoulder, Go; used when changing lanes.
