Mindfulness
Intentionally living with awareness in the present moment and waking up from automatic or rote behaviors to participate in one's own life.
Mindfulness Skills
The specific behaviors to practice that, when put together, make up mindfulness.
Meditation
Practicing mindfulness and mindfulness skills while sitting, standing, or lying quietly for a predetermined period of time.
Contemplative Prayer
A spiritual mindfulness practice which includes forms such as Christian centering prayer, the rosary, Jewish Shema, Islamic Sufi practice, or Hindu raja yoga.
Mindfulness Movement
Forms of mindfulness practice that involve physical activity, such as yoga, martial arts (Qigong, tai chi, aikido, and karate), hiking, horseback riding, and walking.
Strength Training
Exercises that improve muscle strength, such as lifting weights or using resistance bands.
Cardio
Activities that increase heart rate and endurance, with examples including running and swimming.
Flexibility
Exercises designed to enhance the range of motion, such as stretching and yoga.
Balance
Activities that improve stability and coordination, such as balance exercises and tai chi.
Fitness Coach
A professional who ensures proper form, designs structured workouts, provides motivation, and educates on muscle function and recovery strategies.
Basic Level (Strength Training)
A level suitable for beginners focusing on foundational movements, light resistance, and learning proper form using exercises like bodyweight squats, push-ups, and dumbbell curls.
Medium Level (Strength Training)
An intermediate level incorporating moderate resistance, increased reps, and more complex movement patterns such as barbell squats, deadlifts, and weighted lunges.
Advanced Level (Strength Training)
High-intensity workouts characterized by heavier weights, explosive movements, and specialized techniques like Olympic lifts, weighted pull-ups, and plyometric training.
