Habitat

An area of steep, rocky land with cool temperatures.
Piedmont Habitat
An area of rolling hills with red clay soil.
Coastal Plain Habitat
Found at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean; Georgia's coast with sandy beaches, wetlands, and barrier islands.
Marsh/Swamp Habitat
An area of land along the edges of larger bodies of water where the ground is covered with water for long periods.
Adaptation
A body part or behavior that helps a living thing survive in its environment.

Camouflage
Camouflage is a special color or pattern on an animal that helps it hide from other animals that want to catch it. It lets them blend in with their home.
Hibernation
A state of greatly reduced activity that helps animals survive cold winters.
Migration
Seasonal movement of animals to find food or favorable conditions.
Mimicry
Looking like something else to fool predators or gain protection.
Thorns
Sharp protective structures on plants that deter animals.
Bright flowers
Flowers with vivid colors that attract pollinators.
Waxy leaves
Leaves with a waxy coating that helps keep water inside.
Long roots
Deep roots that help plants find water deep underground.
Okefenokee Swamp
A swamp located in Georgia's Coastal Plain; the state's largest wetland.
