ICD
International Classification of Diseases; a system of codes used to classify diseases and health problems.
Cumulative Incidence
The proportion of a population that develops a disease over a specified time period.
Incidence Rate
A measure of the frequency with which new cases of disease occur in a defined population during a specified time period.
Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL)
A measure of the impact of disease in terms of loss of productive years, subtracting the age at death from an age index.
Case Fatality Rate
The proportion of individuals diagnosed with a disease who die from that disease over a specified period.
Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY)
A measure that combines years of life lost due to premature death and years lived with disability.
Prevalence
The total number of cases of a disease in a population at a given time.
Mortality Rate
The number of deaths in a population during a specified time period, usually expressed per 100,000 individuals.
Morbidity Rate
The incidence of disease or disability in a population at a specific time.
Epidemiologic Transition
The shift in the primary causes of mortality from infectious diseases to chronic diseases as life expectancy increases.
