Internet Options

• Config default internet browser options

Network and Sharing Center

• Check and admin NIC

• Config network adaptors

• Create new network/dial up connections

System

Check computer specs/hardware, rename, join domain/workgroup

Mail

Add/remove or repair mailboxes, mostly used by Outlook

Sound

• Used to setup speakers and mics

• Manage devices to play and record sounds

• Config sounds that the OS plays for startup, shutdown, alerts, and prompts

User Accounts

Used to add, remove, or modify local user accounts

Device Manager

• Lists all hardware connected to computer

• Manage drivers for devices. Update or rollback

• Check what is being indexed on the system

• Indexes files like Office docs, PDFs, text files, etc.

Make the system easier to use for people with disabilities

File Explorer

Change how files are shown and searcherd

• Options include

  • Show Hidden Files

  • Hide Extensions at end of file name

  • General file options for browser interface

  • View/Apperance Options

Power Options

• Choose what pressing the power button on the computer should do

• Config the monitor and computer power to be reduced after periods of inactivity

Hibernation Power Mode

• Saves the current state of the computer and shuts down

• When started up again it resumes to the same state without consuming too much power

Power Plans

• 3 power plans:

  • Power Saver

  • Balanced

  • High Performance

Sleep/Suspend Power Mode

• Doesn’t shut done like hibernation mode

• Instead significantly reduced the power to components for a quick restart where you left it

Standby Power Mode

• Typically refers to sleep mode

• Not used in current Windows anymore

Choosing What Closing the Lid Does

• Only available on deices that contain a lid closure sensor

• Determines what happens to power and state when you close

Turn on Fast Startup

Places the system into hibernation during shutdown so the system can boot faster

USB Selective Suspend

Power option where the admin chooses to suspend power to a device connected to a specified USB port
