· Bizarre dreams
Suppresses reflex tachycardia
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with late or advanced HF, asthma, and diabetes
→ non-selective β blockers cause bronchoconstriction
Nursing info
· Hold if HR <60, BP < 90, and if there is a heart block.
· Selective β blockers can be used for pts. w/asthma
→ metoprolol
· β blockers mask the s/sx of hypoglycemia
· Use cautiously in pts. w/HF
ONLY for beginning stages of HF
