It reduces risk of muscle strain and injury, and gets your body prepared for movement
What is a cool down, and why is it important?
It helps you catch your breath and prevents lactic acid build up. It also lowers your heart rate, which helps prevent sudden drops in blood pressure, which can cause dizziness and fainting.
What are the similarities and differences between tendons and ligaments?
Tendons move the bone/structure, while ligaments are tissues that attach bones to each other, and serves as a connection. They both are designed to be load-bearing structures that can also be stretched or teared. They differ in how their key functions work, tendons are muscle - bone, while ligaments are bone-bone
Define dynamic and static stretching, and the benefits of each.
Dynamic - Moving while stretching, like walking while doing arm circles.
Static - Standing or sitting in place while stretching.
While dynamic stretching is helpful as it boosts blood flow and puts your muscles through their full range of motion, static stretching improves long-term flexibility and aids in muscle recovery
Why is it important to monitor your heart rate during cardiovascular exercise?
Monitoring is important because it ensures your heart rate doesn’t get too high and put you at risk, and helps keep you in safe exercise zones, which allow you to put safe stress on the body
