introduction
Hi, I’m Jahzara from Greenpeace.
I’m out today talking to people in your area about our British countryside,
which actually makes up 75% of the UK. It is our biggest ecosystem.
Open question
In your time outside do you feel like you see as man bees, birds or butterflies as you used to?
Problem
The UK has lost a lot of its biodiversity due to industrial agriculture.
Farming methods have shifted rapidly, with heavy reliance on increasingly potent chemicals.
Large areas of countryside have become green desserts, appearing green yet saturated with synthetic fertilizers and toxic pesticides.
These chemicals harm our soil health and rivers.
Consequence of problem
Have you seen the bee movie? the consequences of industrial agriculture is real, We have lost over 97% of our wildflower meadows and 60% of flying insects.
Solution
We need to move from a chemically dependent type of farming to a nature-first, whole farm approach.
restoring our soil and insects and wildlife that feed on pests are supported.
Chemicals should be the last resort.
The goverment need to step in, we are asking them to halve agricultural chemical use by 2030 to reach an 80% reduction by 2040.
It is possible as nature-friendly farmers have shown
Consequence
British Wildlife can bounce back in a few short years.
We can restore healthy soil, create cleaner waterways for kingfishers and ensure food security.
Urgency
Chemicals are found everywhere including in our own bodies, you can see the difference yourself.
The window for change is small, between now and 2030 we must get the government to legally enforce these changes before it is too late.
Close
Four corporations in control of pesticide market.
Bayer and Syngenta at top.
Spending millions to stay at the top. Greenpeace is independent (no govermental support/ corporations, people power.
ask
Most people power the movement with a gift of 10 pounds a month, could we count on your support to help us reach our 2030 target?
