Broad field of study which combines the arts, humanities, and socio-behavioral sciences for the sole purpose of studying and understanding Africa and its people from all facets

• New form of this encompasses the African diaspora as a whole or those people of African descent who are scattered throughout the globe

• provides the knowledge and understanding of Africa and its descendants

Ethnocentrism

the practice of judging another culture by the standards and values of one’s personal culture, often with the belief that one’s own group is superior

Afrocentric

A cultural, political, or philosophical viewpoint that centers on the history, culture and values of African people and the African diaspora rather than a traditional Western or Eurocentric perspective

Marxism

a social, political and economic philosophy that critiques capitalism and carries the central idea that human history is driven by conflict between social groups with opposing economic interests

• Marx argued that capitalism exploits workers by paying them less than the true value of the goods they produce, generating profit for business owners

Diaspora

Large group of people leave their traditional homeland and spread their culture to different regions around the world as a result

• Can be forced or voluntary

• Institution of higher education founded during the segregation era with the primary mission of educating Black Americans

Black Panther Party

revolutionary Black power and Marxist-Leninist organization whose initial goal was to patrol Black neighborhood to protect neighbors from police brutality

Political slogan during the 60s and 70s that encapsulated the self-determination of Black individuals against racism and emphasized self-sufficiency and racial pride!
