Flammable ( WHMIS) : produts that easily burn, catch on fire , or are self reactive. Ex. Gasoline, kersosene
Oxidizing : Products that can cause or promote the combustion of other materials. They either help the fire by providing more oxygen or cause materials that do not usually burn, to catch on fire. Ex. Oxygen, Nitric Acid
Corrosive ( WHIMIS ): Products that can cause severe damage ( corrode) metal surfaces or skin. Ex. Sulfuric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid.
Exploding Bomb ( WHMIS) : Products that can be health hazards under certainc odnitions ; might explode. Ex. Flourine, Hydrogen Cynaide
Exclamation Mark ( WHMIS) : Causes acute toxicity or irritation, may cause serious health effects especially to sensitive skin such as eyes. Ex. Acetone, Chlorine
Skull and Crossbones/ Toxic (WHMIS): Products that can rapidly cause harmful health effetcs including death. Carbon monoxie, Phenol.
Aquatic Toxicity : products that may cause damage to the aquatic environment. ( ex. Chlorine, Ammonia
Compressed Gas : Products that are held under pressure so puncturing or damaging or heating the ocntainer could result in explosion or serious injury. They must be stored and handled carefully. Ex. Compresses air, Carbon dioxide
Health Hazard : Poisoinous products whose health effects generally appear over time following one or several exposures. Ex. Mercury, lead
Biohazardous Infectious Materials: Living organisms or their toxins that can cause disease in people or animals. Ex. AIDS virus, Rabies
