Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease GERD

Treatment- lose weight, decrease fat in diet, sit up 2 hours after eating, eat small frequent meals

Crohn's Disease
Inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any area of the GI tract, particularly the small intestine
Cause- immune system reaction to a virus or bacteria
Symptoms- diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, weight loss, fever, anemia
Ulcerative Colitis
Chronic disease of the colon characterized by ulceration of the mucosa, the innermost lining of the colon
Cause- immune response to a virus or bacteria- may need to avoid foods that cause DI discomfort
Symptoms- similar to Crohn's Disease
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Associated with stress, caffeine, large meals, chocolate, alcohol, dairy, wheat
Treatment- stress management, small meals, higher fiber diet, fluids, exercise
