Job/ Occupation

Definition: work that people engage in to earn pay

Sentence:  My occupation is a financial manager at Apple.

Career

Definition: a work history for one or more jobs in the same or related fields of interest.

Sentence:  John plans to pursue a business career.

Networking

the practice of building informal relationships with people whose friends could bring advantages such as jobs or business opportunities.

Job shadowing

Definition: following another worker on the job for a few days.

Sentence: This girl is job shadowing my associate but it looks like she’s stalking her, she’s been here for days.

Internship

Definition: a temporary paid or unpaid position that involves direct work in a career field.

Sentence: Steph is working an internship at the bank.

Volunteerism

Definition: working without pay

Sentence:  Jelly chose volunteerism for the summer to get experience in marketing.

Entry-level job

a job suitable for a worker who is new to a job, field, or subject

Outsourcing

Definition: using outside sources to do tasks that are held by internal staff

Sentence:  OUtsourcing can help lower total costs.
