What happens to the normal force when the angle of an inclined plane is increased?
The normal force decreases.
What is the formula to calculate weight?
W = mg, where W is weight, m is mass, and g is gravitational acceleration.
What are the two types of friction discussed in the notes?
Static friction and kinetic friction.
What is Newton's first law of motion?
A body will remain in its state of rest or motion at constant velocity unless a non-zero resultant/net force acts on it.
How is the gravitational force between two masses defined?
It is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
What does the coefficient of kinetic friction (μk) represent?
The ratio of the force of kinetic friction to the normal force.
How do you calculate the gravitational force F using Newton's law of Universal Gravitation?
F = G(m1m2)/d², where G is the gravitational constant.
What is a free body diagram?
A picture of an object represented as a dot, with all the forces acting on it drawn as arrows pointing away from the dot.
What is meant by equilibrium in mechanics?
When the net force acting on an object is zero, meaning all forces are balanced.
Explain Newton's third law of motion in your own words.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction; forces act in pairs on different objects.
