History is a study of the past. It’s examines the past through important events, people and civilisations. The word history comes from the Greek word ‘historia’ which means inquiry or investigation.

What is the out of Africa theory?

The out of Africa theory states that all humans originated in Africa and that we subsequently migrated out of the continent overtime.

  • This theory is supported by variety of evidence including genetic studies, fossil records and archaeological finds.

  • Firstly genetic studies has shown that all modern humans share a common ancestor who lived in Africa around 200,000 years ago.

  • Secondly fossil records show that early human fossils are found exclusively in Africa until around hundred thousand years ago. The archaeologists have found caves, tools, seeds and human remains that support the theory.

  • After this point, we see the first evidence of human population outside of Africa.

Why did humans leave Africa?

There are a number of reasons why scientist believed that humans migrated.

One possibility is that as the African climate became dry and more arid humans were forced to migrate and search with more favourable conditions.

There are some evidence of environmental change in Africa around 100,000 years ago. There was less rainfall at the time which may have caused the forest to disappear forcing humans to look For new places to live.

Another possibility is a human simply explore this surroundings and eventually venture out of Africa and search of new Lancer colonise.
