How does electronegativity increase or decrease across the periodic table and down the group |
It increases left to right across the periodic table and decreases going down the group (its bigger in the left side of the periodic table and lower in the right of the periodic table) |
How is a valence bond polar covalent?
It is polar covalent if its electronegativity is below 0.5.
What is electronegativity?
Electronegativity is the ability to attract electrons towards itself within a chemical bond meaning the energy to attract electrons to itself.
If a substance is composed of metallic and non metallic will it have an ionic attraction?
Yes and it will form an ionic compound.
When do ionic attractions happen?
Ionic attractions happen between metallic and non metallic atoms when they lose or gain electrons to form ions this would be called a coulombic or electrostatic attraction.
When does metallic bonding happen?
Metallic bonding happens between metal atoms, can be either one type of metal, pure substance or different types of metal mixture.
Why does the attraction happen?
The attraction is due to multiple metallic cations being attracted to a sea of valence electrons.
