What does mitochondria do for aerobic respiration
Produces energy carrying molecule ATP
Features of mitochondria
Has double membrane, we have outer mitochondrial membrane , and inner mitochondrial membrane.
In between membranes, we have intermembrane space, within mitochondria we have fluid called matrix
Inner mitochondrial membrane has folds called cristae, by folding inner membrane like this, we have great deal of surface area, for enzymes needed for oxidative phosporylation
What does loop of mitochondrial DNA have
Contains genes required for some of the enzymes involved in aerobic respiration
What else does mitochondria contain
Mitochondrial ribosomes, these synthesise the proteins encoded by the mitochondrial DNA
