physical quantity
a physical quantity can be measured by a device or an instrument. It consists of a numerical magnitude and a unit
accuracy
accuracy is how close the data is to the true value
precision
precision is how close the data is to one another
zero error
zero error isa type of error in which an instrument gives a non-zero reading when the measured quantity should be zero
parallax error
parallax error occurs when the marking on an instrument is viewed from the wrong angle
strikeback flame
a strikeback flame occurs when the air hole is not closed properly during ignition, leading to too much air entering through the air hole
non luminous flame
A non-luminous flame occurs when the air hole is not closed. It is blue in colour and hard to see from a distance. It’s temperature is higher than that of a luminous flame.
luminous flame
a luminous flame occurs when the air hole is closed. It is orange and yellow in colour. It has a lower temperature than a non-luminous flame. Due to incomplete combustion, soot is produced.
