SameHere Scale
An evidence-based mental health check-in tool and communication continuum that measures nervous system shifts from "Thriving" to "Sinking" to create a common language for tracking emotional well-being.
5-in-5 Approach
The concept that 5 out of 5 humans face stress and trauma on a life continuum, uniting people through shared experience rather than division.
Binary Fallacy
The false idea reinforced by slogans like "stop the stigma" that people are neatly split into two separate groups—those with mental health struggles and those without.
STARR
An acronym for Stress & Trauma Active Release & Rewiring.
STARR Gym For The Brain™
A proactive mental health routine involving exercise modalities that address the cumulative effects of chronic stress and trauma to safely regulate the nervous system and rewire emotional responses.
STARR Alliance Experts
Inventors, lead researchers, and/or top influencers of mind/body healing modalities who act as "trainers" for the STARR Gym exercises.
An American Sign Language gesture created by touching the thumb to the chest, curling the middle fingers, and keeping the pinkie out to show understanding, care, and connection.
Thriving
A state on the continuum where the body feels ready, the brain feels energized and clear, and joining in feels easier.
Gliding
A state on the continuum where the body feels calm, the brain feels organized and balanced, and going along feels natural.
Surviving
A state on the continuum where the body feels tired and the brain feels busy, meaning doing the basics takes extra effort.
Fluctuating
A state on the continuum where the body feels restless and the brain feels jumpy or scattered, making focus and patience harder to hold.
Struggling
A state on the continuum where the body feels tight and the brain feels overloaded, often resulting in feelings or actions that feel bigger than usual.
Sinking
A state on the continuum where the body feels worn out or exhausted and the brain feels quiet, foggy, or frozen; pulling away can feel safer than trying.
Victory Breath
A STARR exercise performed by reaching arms up while breathing in slowly through the nose and out long through the mouth to stay balanced and connected.
Sphinx Stretch
A STARR exercise involving lifting the chest and pressing the hands down to wake up energy without pushing.
Tapping
A STARR exercise involving tapping the right hand to the left knee and then switching to help both sides of the brain work together.
Snowman Breathing
A STARR exercise where one breathes in slowly and lets the arms melt down during the exhale to help big energy move out safely.
Havening
A STARR exercise involving crossing the arms gently and slowly rubbing down to help the body feel safe and connected.
