Acute Injury
An injury that occurs quickly with immediate pain and loss of function.
Direct Injuries
Injuries resulting from external force, such as a collision or blow.
Indirect Injuries
Injuries caused by sudden changes in direction or intensity.
Soft Tissue Injury
Damage to skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Tear (Injury)
Excessive stretching or rupture of connective tissue.
Strain
Injury to a muscle or tendon.
Sprain
Injury to a ligament.
Contusion (Bruise)
Bleeding into soft tissue.
Hard Tissue Injuries
Involves bones of the skeleton
Fracture
A break to the bone.
Dislocation
Occurs at a joint, where bones are displaced.
Chronic Injuries
Injuries that recur due to re-injury, prolonged weakness, or insufficient rehabilitation.
Overuse Injuries
Injuries caused by excessive and repeated use of a muscle, bone, or joint.
Arthritis
Inflammation of the joints, causing pain and stiffness.
Osteoarthritis
Arthritis where the cartilage wears away on the ends of bones.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Chronic disease resulting from an autoimmune response attacking joint linings.
Osteoporosis
Thinning and weakening of bone, making it fragile.
Pre-Participation Screening
Questionnaires or physical exams to assess an individual's readiness for physical activity.
Overtraining
A condition characterized by decreased athletic performance, fatigue, and mood disturbances.
Warm-Up
Prepares the body for physical activity by increasing heart rate, blood flow, and enzyme activity.
Cool-Down
Assists the body to recover from excercise, prevents venous pooling, and reduces muscle soreness
