Scene Safety
Make sure environment is safe for you, the victim, and others. Assess before approaching.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Gloves, face masks, eye protection, gowns (if necessary).
Steps of Glove Removal
Peel off one glove, hold it, slide fingers under second glove to peel off, dispose properly.
When to Wash Hands
After glove removal, before/after treating someone, after exposure to blood/fluids.
Finding the Victim’s Problem
Check responsiveness, breathing, pulse, scan body, start CPR or first aid if needed.
Breathing Problems
Shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing. Help with inhaler, call 911 if worsens.
Choking (Responsive)
Ask if they can cough or talk, give abdominal thrusts.
Choking (Unresponsive)
Start CPR immediately.
Mild Allergic Reactions
Itchy skin, rash, sneezing.
Severe Allergic Reactions
Trouble breathing, swelling of face/tongue, fainting.
EpiPen Use
Take cap off, push into outer thigh, hold for 3 seconds, rub area, call 911.
Heart Attack Symptoms
Chest pressure, pain in arms/neck, nausea, sweating. Call 911, stay calm, offer aspirin.
Fainting
Temporary loss of consciousness. Help victim lie down and elevate legs.
Diabetic Emergencies
Confusion, irritability, sleepiness. Give sugar if awake.
Stroke Identification
FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911.
Seizures Management
Protect from injury, don't restrain, call 911 if lasts more than 5 minutes.
Bleeding from the Mouth
Lean forward, apply gauze if bleeding visible, call 911 if severe.
Controlling Bleeding
Apply firm direct pressure, add dressings, use tourniquet if needed.
Dressing vs. Bandage
Dressing covers wound, bandage secures dressing.
Tourniquet Use
For severe bleeding. Apply 2 inches above wound, tighten until bleeding stops.
Signs of Shock
Pale skin, cold sweat, confusion. Lay flat, keep warm, call 911.
Wound Types
Abrasion, Laceration, Avulsion, Puncture.
Nosebleed Procedure
Lean forward, pinch nostrils for 5–10 minutes.
Tooth Injuries Treatment
Hold by crown, rinse gently, place in milk or clean water.
Eye Injuries Procedure
Rinse gently with clean water. Don't remove embedded objects.
Penetrating Injuries Management
Leave object in place, secure it.
Care of Amputated Parts
Rinse, wrap in sterile dressing, place in bag on ice.
Internal Bleeding Signs
Swelling, bruising, signs of shock. Call 911 immediately.
Head/Neck Injuries
Suspect after fall, hit to head, abnormal behavior.
Spinal Injuries Guideline
Don't move unless necessary for safety.
Fractures/Sprains Management
Immobilize, apply cold pack, seek medical care.
Splinting Guidelines
Splint above and below injury, keep limb in position found.
Burn Treatment
Cool with water, cover loosely with dressing.
Electrical Injuries Procedure
Ensure power is off, call 911.
Snakebite Management
Keep still, call 911, keep bite below heart level.
Bites/Stings Care
Wash with soap and water, use ice for swelling.
Heat Exhaustion Treatment
Cool place, drink fluids.
Heat Stroke Response
Call 911 immediately, cool rapidly.
Cold Injuries Treatment
Move to warm place, warm slowly.
Poison Response
Call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222).
