Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
The maximum period following a disaster during which an individual IT system may remain offline.
Work Recovery Time (WRT)
The time needed after system recovery to reintegrate systems, restore data, and test functionality.
Maximum Tolerable Downtime (MTD)
The upper limit on the amount of recovery time that system and asset owners have to resume operations.
Availability
The percentage of time that the system is operational and online, typically measured over a year.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
The maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time units, indicating how far back data can be restored.
High Availability
A characteristic of a system that guarantees a certain level of availability, typically expressed in nines (e.g., 99%, 99.9999%).
Continuous Availability
A state of almost no scheduled downtime, required for systems where failure poses a risk of injury or loss of life.
Downtime
The total time during which a system is unavailable, calculated from scheduled service intervals and unplanned outages.
