Principle 1

In the role of an AT, members shall practice with compassion, respecting the rights, well-being, and dignity of others

Principle 2

Members shall comply with the laws and regulations governing the practice of AT, NATA membership standards, and the NATA Code of Ethics

Principle 3

Members shall maintain and promote high standards in their provision of services

Principle 4

Members shall not engage in conduct that could be construed as a conflict of interest, reflects negatively on the AT profession, or jeopardizes a patients health and well-being.

1.1

Act in a respectful and appropriate manner to all persons regardless of race, religion, age, sex, ethnic or national origin, disability, health status, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity + expression

1.2

Duty to pt is first concern, well-being + long-term well being over all other stakeholders to provide competent care, and advocate for best medical interest +safety of pt based on best practices

1.3

Preserve confidentiality of PHI and shall not release or publish in any form to any 3rd party not involved w/out release unless required by law

2.1

Comply with applicable local, state, + federal laws + any state AT practice acts

2.2

Understand and uphold all NATA standards and code of ethics

2.3

Refrain from and report illegal or unethical practices related to AT

2.4

Cooperate in ethics investigations by NATA, state boards, or other governing bodies over AT. Failure to cooperate in an ethics investigation is an ethical violation.

2.5

Must not file or encourage filing frivolous ethics complaint w/ any org or entity when complaint is unfounded or ignores facts that could disprove allegations

2.6

Refrain from substance or alcohol abuse, if in investigation need provided documentation of rehab participation to complete NATA reinstatement or suspension

3.1

Shall not misrepresent, directly or indirectly, their skills, training, credentials, identity, or services

3.2

Shall provide only those services for which they are qualified through education or XP, and are allowed by applicable state practice acts/regulations

3.3

Shall provide services, make referrals, and seek compensations for only necessary services in best interest of the pt as determined by best practices

3.4

Continue education and participate in educational activities that enhance skills and knowledge and complete edu requirements necessary to continue practice

3.5

Educate those you supervise in practice about code of ethics and stress adherence to bylaws

3.6

Those who are researchers and educators must maintain and promote ethical conduct in research and educational activities

4.1

Conduct themselves personally + professionally in a manner that reflects shared professional values, does not compromise professional responsibilities

4.2

Do not use NATA or AT logo in endorsement of products or services or exploit NATA affiliation w/ NATA in a manner that reflects badly

4.3

Shall not place financial gain above pts well-being and shall not participate in any arrangement that exploits pt well being

4.4

Shall not through direct or indirect means, use info obtained in the course of practice to try and influence the score or outcome of an athletic event, or attempt to induce financial gain through gambling

4.5

Shall not provide or publish false or misleading info, photos, or comms in any media format, related to AT that negatively reflects the profession or other NATA members
